39th Annual Woodcarving Show October 11 and October 12, 2008

Fall 2008 Carving Show:

 
  • The annual woodcarving show and the spring seminar are funded in part by a grant from the Dakota West Arts Council, made possible by the City of Bismarck
  • Theme
    • The theme for the 2008 annual Flickertail Woodcarver Show is Winter Holiday. We are hoping that each woodcarver would carve one or more items to help create the winter scene. Examples of items that would be used are:
      1. Kid(s) on toboggan
      2. Kid(s) on runner sled
      3. Kids sledding on saucer sled
      4. Adults sledding
      5. Adult skiing
      6. Kid(s) skiing
      7. Kids snowboarding
      8. Adults around bonfire
      9. Kids around bonfire
      10. People decorating tree
      11. Store(s) front with people window shopping
      12. Santa ice skating
      13. Kids throwing snowballs
      14. People making snowman
      15. More skaters
      16. dog following skaters
      17. Horse with sleigh

      Please let me know about additional ideas.

      If you want to participate go to the list at this website, and select the item(s) that you wish to make. Figures should be in the 5 to 9 inch range. The pieces should be completed by our September meeting day (September 20).


  • Class Presenters
    • Rosalyn Daisey
      • Prior to the show, Oct 8-10, Rosalyn will do a standing miniature Canada goose class (picture in the Nov.- Dec. Chips Chats). The goose will be about eight inches tall. The goose will be feathered, burned, and painted. Exact cost of class is unknown at this time, but will be approximately $200 for club members. Rosalyn is the author of about five books and a winner at the Ward Wildfowl Carving Show. On Saturday morning she will do a habitat class. During the show she will be doing wildfowl carving demos. After the show, Oct 13-15, she will do a life size American Goldfinch class. The realistic bird will be carved, textured, and painted. Exact cost for this class is unknown at this time but will be approximately $200.

        NOTE:  The cost of the above classes is for current members of the Flickertail Woodcarvers, cost for nonmember will be $25 higher and preference is given to current members.  Registration forms for Rosalyn's class will be included in the July newsletter.  Early registration is not allowed (club rules).
